About The Old Packhouse Cafe
The Old Packhouse Cafe is a place for coffee, conversation and connection in Kerikeri.
The Old Packhouse has become something special in Kerikeri. Some call it the “beating heart” of the town, others simply the hub — a place where locals and visitors naturally gather. At its core, it has always been about community and supporting local.
The building at 505 Kerikeri Road began its life as a timber milling and furniture manufacturing site. In 2012 it was purchased by Warrick Hyland’s father, and soon after, Warrick and Judy Hyland — newly relocated from Auckland — began shaping it into something more.
What began as a small weekend operation has grown into a busy, welcoming cafe open Tuesday to Sunday — serving the best coffee in Kerikeri, house-made pastries, fresh breads, seasonal salads, hearty pies and cabinet food made on site. The focus remains the same: local produce, artisanal food, and genuine hospitality.
Today, The Old Packhouse employs over 35 people. For Judy and Warrick, one of the greatest joys has been watching local school students join at 15 with no work experience and leave at 18 with barista skills, confidence and real-world hospitality experience.
The cafe is more than just a place to eat. It’s a meeting place. A starting point for markets and events. A warm fire in winter. A catch-up over coffee.
And it continues to grow alongside the community it was built for.
Open Tuesday–Sunday, 7am–2pm (Closed Monday)
