From the Old Packhouse Bakery
At the Old Packhouse Bakery we bake a range of French-style breads and pastries, all leavened with our 18-year-old sourdough starter, lovingly known as Edgar Allen Dough.
Breads
Our breads include sourdough boule, country loaf (made with 20% rye), ciabatta, focaccia and two baguettes — plain and sesame. These are available in our cafe on Saturdays and Sundays, with frozen loaves available throughout the week.
Pastries
Our pastries are hand-laminated with 100% butter and proofed and baked fresh on site each day. Choose from classic croissants, almond croissants, pain au chocolat, cinnamon swirls, cruffins, danishes, twists and more. We also bake a selection of individual tarts and quiches, along with our now “famous in Kerikeri” cheese scones and date & orange scones.
Cakes & Seasonal Baking
Our cakes and slices change with the seasons, inspired by the local produce available at the time. Much of what we use is sourced directly from the growers who sell at our weekend markets — a reflection of our commitment to fresh, seasonal food.




Annie – Pastry Chef & General Manager
Annie trained as a pastry chef in Germany and then went on to work in Switzerland before travelling to Aotearoa. Her experience in restaurants, hotels and cafes brings a wide range of skills and product knowledge to the Packhouse team. She joined us in May 2020 and has been an integral part of the cafe ever since.
What she loves most about her role is the creativity — developing new recipes and exploring flavour combinations inspired by both European tradition and local produce. Annie now supports Judy in the daily operations of the cafe business, helping to maintain the quality and consistency that The Old Packhouse is known for.
Lisa Sutherland – Head Baker
Lisa joined the team in 2022 and has been baking our delicious bread for four years now — time flies when you're having fun. After completing a baking course at NorthTec, she was trained by the former French baker at the Packhouse, learning traditional sourdough methods and artisan techniques.
Lisa enjoys the early morning starts and the satisfaction of seeing customers enjoy the breads she has baked from scratch. She was later trained by Annie and now also produces many of the pastries that bring everyday joy to our cafe cabinet.
